KYAPS became my ‘husband’-widow

Recently, Kyamuhunga People’s SACCO (KYAPS) one of the leading SACCO in the Country celebrated its 25th Anniversary since inception.

During the celebrations, different beneficiaries gave their testimonies on how KYAPS has since impacted on their lives and on communities.

Western Focus Magazine will run a series of testimonies from the different beneficiaries.

In this report, we bring out how KYAPS has empowered Sharon Muhumuza.

After the death of my husband in 2008, I was almost left at the ‘cross road’ because of worries of running the family.

As I was stranded, in 2009 a friend of mine visited me and encouraged me to join Kyamuhunga Peoples SACCO (KYAPS) and indeed for the last 15years life became easy for me because of the support I get from KYAPS.

I don’t think that I would have managed to run a family had it not been KYAPS which has stood with me through the difficult times of widowhood.

I had started a small business using small money but whenever I could pull out money to buy the basic necessities to run the family and also money to pay school fees for the children, the business would remain empty.

I had opened an account with KYAPS.  I approached the SACCO and explained the situation I was in. They accepted me and gave me a loan of Sh1.5million.

I was lucky that when I received this loan, it boosted me to the extent that I got a tender to supply produce and the first stock I purchased gave me some good profit.  The capital doubled!!

Since then I have never looked back and I’m happy that KYAPS has walked with me this journey. I am proud that I have managed to educate my children, run the family and own a produce business where I’m also a supplier.

KYAPS went ahead to empower me with financial literacy. When you borrow money/loan you don’t spend it on luxury. If it’s for business; let it do business and wait to accumulate so that you can buy whatever you want.
