Kyabugimbi Secondary School ‘breaks chains’

If there is a Universal Secondary Education (USE) school that has tripled its growth within a shortest period of time, its Kyabugimbi secondary school in Bushenyi district.

Gone are the days when one would struggle to locate the position of Kyabugimbi secondary school in the national rankings both at O’level and A’level.

“Our ranking in all activities both at district and at National level has greatly improved,” says the head teacher Alex Musinguzi.

For example, in the year 2020, the school’s grade point was 9.5 putting the school in the 10th position amongst the best A’Level schools per district.

In 2022, Kyabugimbi did it again and the school was ranked as 86th in the whole country while at the district level it was the 3rd best performing A’level school with average grade point of 11.9.

Musinguzi says using the approach of training students in the 3Hs that is; Training the Heart, training the Hands and training the Head has set a new pace at Kyabugimbi SS.

“Kyabugimbi is again a school that one cannot fail to mention at the national level because even in co-cullicular activities we are competing from the district level to Regional and National level,” Musinguzi boasts. Just recently, Kyabugimbi SS participated at the regional level debate tournament competition from where it chosen to represent the region at the national level.

Other major achievements

-Enrollment; due to a number of interventions, in six years, the school’s enrollment has increased from 304 students to over 1000 students!

-Improved discipline for both staff and students

-Installed solar system to enable students conduct night preps

-Bought a strong printing/photocopying machine

-Facilitated both teachers and students to attend a number of national seminars and workshops.

-Some teachers appointed and promoted to different levels by education service commission and ministry of education and sports.

-Constructed bath rooms for girls

-Face lifted science laboratory block and the main hall

-Received 465 textbooks for the new curriculum from the ministry of education and sports.

-Purchased some essential textbooks for A’Level and O’level.

-Hosted a number of UNEB facilitators to talk to and inspire students.

-Equipped the entertainment hall by installing a big TV screen and acquired sports uniforms to boost sports.

-Installed a new card reporting system to track down the performance and attendance of teachers.

-Bought 120 twin seaters and 70 double Decker beds.
