The Bishop of Diocese of West Ankole the Rt. Rev Johnson Twinomujuni has cautioned people especially the leaders not to let the demands and expectations of their constituencies take away their lives.
Twinomujuni said leaders especially MPs are facing a lot of pressure because their electorates expect a lot from them on top of expecting them to be everywhere.
He said it is unfortunate that sometimes even when they (MPs) delegate their political assistants/representatives to attend some of the functions on their behalf, people don’t want to appreciate.

The Bishop was on Saturday presiding over Kibaare Church of Uganda’s celebrations where they were celebrating 110years of existence. The Minister for education and sports, the first lady Mrs. Janet Kataaha Museveni who was expected to be the guest of honor was represented by the Senior Presidential Advisor Lay. Can. Mary Karooro Okurut. The First Lady Mrs. Museveni sent Karooro with Shs30million which she donated towards the refurbishment of Kibaare church.
“For you not to break down, mind about your health. You need to say no to some of the appointments, assignments and some functions without being bashed about it,” the Bishop advised.
The Bishop’s caution comes at a time when in some constituencies campaigns and mobilizations have been intensified by those with intentions of contesting especially as MPs to unseat the incumbents.
In attendance at Kibaare celebrations were the Bushenyi district woman MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha, the Bushenyi/Ishaka Municipality MP Derrick Kabuura, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation Managing Director Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha who contributed generously towards the project of re-modifying the church.
“Let us not allow jobs to finish us first without us finishing them first,” Twinomujuni said. Earlier, Kabuura said as MPs they are overwhelmed with the different functions and activities where they are always expected to participate.
He said he sympathizes with leaders like President Yoweri Museveni whom he said he always have hundreds of invitations to attend to daily.
The Bishop however warned leaders saying as they try to balance between their health and work, they should not dare to abandon their responsibilities and abandon the people who elected them.
“God has given us platforms and opportunities so let us use them to serve and transform our people. You remain with your cardinal role of being a leader,” the Bishop said.
Twinomujuni appealed to people to forgive leaders and always understand them in case they don’t show up on their functions sometimes. “Pray for us who are always at the frontline,” the Bishop said.
Twinomujuni appealed to people to work towards the transformation of their churches and communities stressing that, “work for a legacy so that people can tap from your legacy.”
“Go to church, be in church and work for it. Build it when you’re still alive instead of waiting to die and then your relatives start to fidget around that your body be taken to church for prayers when you have never been to church nor contributed anything to that church,” Bishop Twinomuuni warned.
In her speech which was delivered by Karooro, the First Lady Mrs. Museveni urged teachers to go beyond teaching and help on identification of talents and gifts amongst children.
Mrs. Museveni said some children have got special in-born talents/gifts but due to lack of exposure and guidance, the talents/gifts end up remaining ‘dormant’ and unexploited. The First Lady commended church for contributing immensely towards the country’s social and economic development. Karooro thanked Pison Mugizi who is the Kibaare Parish’s Head of Laity for championing community mobilisation through Harambee spirit. End.
