Christians in the Diocese of Ankole are full of joy after the Diocese’s decision to transform its health schemes into a Health Cooperative-Revival Health Cooperative.

Addressing the Cooperative’s annual general meeting that aimed at strengthening the services and the operations of the cooperative at St James Cathedral Ruharo recently, The Bishop Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa told members that the reason they have been called is to see how to address issues of health amongst God’s people.

The Bishop also said that they are in a public health crisis so they ought to analyze where the problem is and address it.

Mwesigwa said among the objectives of the health cooperative is to teach people on how to safe guard and prevent themselves against certain diseases especially those that are preventable.
Mwesigwa said he has assembled a health team from Ruharo Mission Hospital which will be accompanying him during his pastoral programs to engage and educate Christians on a number of health issues.

The Bishop encouraged Christians to embrace the health cooperative noting that it will help them at a time of need, according to a statement released by Asasira Joanita Nancy the Diocesan Information and Communication Officer.
The Diocesan Secretary Rev. Can. Edson Abaasa explained that the health cooperative is an umbrella of the different health schemes such as diocesan schools health scheme, Ankole Diocese Health Scheme for staff and community.

Abaasa encouraged members to support this cooperative and join it so that they can all benefit from it.

Allan Buhanda the Mbarara City Commercial Officer congratulated the Diocese for establishing a unique cooperative which focuses on transforming people’s health. “Unlike other cooperatives which put emphasis on making profits/money, yours focuses much on saving lives,” Buhanda said.

Joseph Magyezi the Diocesan health coordinator said that the scheme so far has over 1580 people who are already subscribing to the scheme.  End.
