President Yoweri Museveni has saluted Mzee. Can. Yorokamu Bashaasha for his contributions towards the transformation of the Country. Museveni also commended Bashaasha for his continued steadiness and loyalty.
The President thanked Mzee Bashaasha for being among the farmers who introduced modern farming in the Ankole region by importing Friesian cows from Kenya.
“I thank him (Mzee Bashaasha) for his loyalty and steadfastness over the years,” Museveni said.
Museveni recalled how he met Bashaasha in 1960s and since then they have been together.
“I thank the Lord for giving us the gift of life; for the last 64 years, we have been together,” the President said. “I remember Bashaasha joining school in 1960, a year after I had joined,” Museveni said recently during his visit to the family in Katungu cell, Nyakabirizi in Bushenyi/Ishaka Municipality.
Museveni visited the family to pay tribute to Bashaasha’s wife, the late Lay. Canon.Keroi Bashaasha a prominent farmer, a church pillar who died in 2023. Museveni appreciated the couple for grooming well their children/family.
Keroi was a mother to Willis Bashaasha the Director for Manifesto Implementation Unit in the office of the President and Commissioner Winstone Katushabe in the Ministry of Works and Transport among other children.
Museveni consoled the family for losing a mother who was a strong pillar in the family and the society. Museveni laid a wreath at Keroi’s last resting place/grave where the prayers were led by the Bishop of West Ankole Diocese Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni.
“I extend my condolences to the entire Bashaasha family and thank the Lord for standing with them in mourning their beloved mother. May God continue to give them strength and comfort during this time. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Museveni said
“Thank you for being role models in caring for your parents,” Museveni said as he thanked the children. The Bushenyi District Woman MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha joined the family to receive the President.
