Authorities of Bushenyi district local government have named the best head teachers with the head teacher of Kyabugimbi secondary school scooping the award.
Alex Musinguzi scooped the award as the best secondary school head teacher on Friday during the District’s staff end of year party that was held on Saturday at High Way Point-Kituzi in Rwentuha town council in Bushenyi district. The party where the minister for Local government Raphael Magyezi was the chief guest was organised by the district Chief Administrative officer and the district chairman Jaffari Bassajjabalaba. Among the dignitaries that attended the function included the Managing Director for National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha.

Endorsed by the district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Sanyu Phiona, Musinguzi was given a ‘Distinguished Award of Excellence’ as the best secondary school head teacher in the district.
Reasons that made Musinguzi to standout
He was recognized for his outstanding performance interms of causing a paradigm shift at Kyabugimbi SS both in enrollment, academic performance and enabling the learners to access ‘All round Education’ that caters for the heart, hand and the head. Musinguzi was also credited for his role in mobilizing for the education sector and his compliance to District and National policies and programs.
Musinguzi found Kyabugimbi SS a Universal Secondary Education (USE) school struggling with only 300 students in 2018 but he employed a number of strategies and within few years, the enrollment shot to 1051 (as at 2024.)
He was also awarded for rebranding Kyabugimbi SS to the extent that now it competes up to national level in both academics and co-curricular activities.
A case in point, this ending year (2024) Kyabugimbi has represented the country (Uganda) at East Africa Secondary schools Debate championships in Kigali-Rwanda. In 2022, at UACE results, the school was the third best in Bushenyi District while at the national level it was ranked as No.86, according to the Daily Monitor of Saturday 4th. Match. 2023. In 2024 sports, Kyabugimbi was the second best in athletics competitions at the district level before it went ahead to represent the district at the regional level from where it was selected to represent Ankole Region at the National Athletics competitions which took place in Soroti.
Mrs. Omweigarire Byamukama the head teacher for St. Mary’s primary school in Kyamuhunga Sub County was awarded for propelling good performance at St. Mary’s P/s.
Munanura primary school in Kakanju Sub County was recognized for its consistence in using the teller machine. Government introduced the teller machine as a technology to help in monitoring and tracking down especially the teacher’s class/lesson attendance.
Meanwhile, the staff of Kyabugimbi SS are in Rwanda on a study trip. While in Rwanda, they will visit a number of areas like; parliament of Rwanda, Kigali golf pitch, Ntare school of Rwanda, Kigali genocide memorial, Amahoro stadium, Kigali International airport, Mt. Kigali, the Diocese of Gahini among others.
Musinguzi said, “This is part of motivating and exposing our teachers beyond the classroom sessions.”
In a related incident, head teachers of secondary schools in Bushenyi district have returned from Kenya where they had also gone to benchmark on Competency Based curriculum.
